About Emma Michael
My journey with yoga and healing began over 27 years ago, and throughout that time, my yoga mat has been a source of deep comfort, strength, and self-discovery. Having spent 33 years in London, I had the privilege of studying with some of the world’s most respected yoga teachers and exploring a wide spectrum of styles, philosophies, and therapeutic yoga approaches. To this day, I regularly return to London to continue my own training and development.
Yoga Teacher Training Lineage
My first formal certification was a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Sivananda Yoga, undertaken after leaving my high-pressure career in broadcast project management. I travelled to India and lived in an ashram in Madurai, where I immersed myself in the traditional yogic lifestyle and laid the foundation for a lifelong path in yoga teaching and healing.
Years later, while travelling through Bali, I took my first Anusara Yoga class at the Yoga Barn in Ubud. The experience was transformative—it awakened a deep emotional sensitivity and inspired me to pursue further training. I went on to complete another 200-hour Anusara Yoga certification with Bridget Woods-Kramer at Triyoga London, flying regularly from Cyprus to continue my studies.
Shortly after, I joined the YogaWorks Teacher Training in Cyprus with Anna Zorzou, completing my third 200-hour yoga certification. This broad and varied training has shaped my inclusive, heart-centered, and therapeutic approach to teaching.
Prenatal, Postnatal & Baby Yoga Specialist
In 2006, I became a certified Pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga Teacher through the Birthlight Trust. Since then, I’ve taught weekly prenatal and postnatal yoga classes at The Centre—my wellness studio in Nicosia. Over the past six years, I’ve developed a holistic, empowering program that supports women through all stages of pregnancy, birth preparation, and the postpartum period.
My classes focus on breath awareness, physical balance, emotional wellbeing, and core and pelvic floor rehabilitation. In 2025, I expanded this offering with additional qualifications in baby yoga and baby massage, creating nurturing spaces for new mothers and their babies to bond and thrive together.
Yoga Therapy & Mental Health Integration
In 2023, I began training as a Yoga Therapist at the prestigious Minded Institute in the UK. This training integrates yoga therapy, mindfulness, neuroscience, psychotherapy, and evidence-based clinical practice. As a result, I now offer trauma-informed, therapeutic yoga sessions tailored to support clients with physical, emotional, and mental health conditions.
In 2024, I deepened this work with a certification in Restorative Yoga for Women’s Health from Bliss Baby Yoga, an institute that specialises in fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum care.
Shiatsu, Psychology & Bodywork
My passion for bodywork began early. At 19, I trained in Indian Head Massage, and by 23, while travelling in Thailand, I studied Thai Massage at the Old Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai. This planted the seed for a lifelong fascination with healing touch.
After completing my BSc in Psychology, I enrolled in a weekend workshop at the British School of Shiatsu in London—and I was instantly hooked. I completed a 3.5-year Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma, a rigorous training that included anatomy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, energetic sensitivity, and therapeutic theory. I later assisted and taught at the school, studied with masters in Japan, and trained with Saul Goodman, founder of the first Shiatsu school in England.
For the past 7 years, I’ve specialised in Shiatsu for pregnancy and postnatal care, training with Suzanne Yates, a leading expert in the field. I continue to grow my knowledge through ongoing workshops and advanced seminars.
