Yoga Therapy

Emma offers yoga therapy for specific conditions. As a trainee yoga therapist she works with the interface between yoga therapy, mindfulness, neurophysiology, psychotherapeutic principles, and evidence-based practice. This training means she offers therapeutic, trauma informed care to her clients and students.  She can work with you with physical injuries, limitations and conditions to help you find more awareness, ease and relief. She uses specific techniques to work with the musculoskeletal and fascia systems as well as appropriate meditation, breathing and relaxation.

People suffering from psychological issues such as anxiety and depression can find techniques and practices of yoga therapy very helpful in managing the conditions. Emma uses movement, mindfulness, breath and meditation techniques to help you to recognise and regulate thoughts, feelings and emotions as well as offering lifestyle suggestions and changes.

Each one on one session is an hour long and no previous experience of yoga is necessary.

What to Expect in a Yoga Therapy Session:

  1. Individualised Assessment: Sessions begin with a discussion or assessment of your physical, emotional, and mental health. Emma will gather information about your goals, lifestyle, and any specific conditions or concerns.

  2. Tailored Practices: The practice is customised to address your unique needs, whether they involve physical issues (e.g., injury recovery, chronic pain) or emotional well-being (e.g., stress, anxiety, trauma). Sessions may include a combination of asana (poses), pranayama (breathwork), mindfulness, meditation, or restorative techniques.

  3. Focus on Gentle and Supportive Techniques: Yoga therapy often involves modified or restorative postures using props like bolsters, blankets, and blocks to provide maximum comfort and accessibility.

  4. Holistic Approach: Emphasis is placed on balancing the body and mind. Sessions may include elements of somatic awareness, guided relaxation, or practices to regulate the nervous system.

  5. One-on-One Guidance: Emma provides detailed guidance and hands-on support, if appropriate, to ensure proper alignment, safety, and ease in every movement or pose.

  6. Progress Monitoring: Sessions are progressive, with regular evaluations to adjust the practice based on your growth, comfort, and changing needs.
